EMISSIONS logic DETAILED DESCRIPTION
THE FOUR STEPS TO MANAGE YOUR OBLIGATION UNDER THE EU ETS

EMISSIONS logic MODULES

MODULE 1 - EMISSIONS INVENTORY MANAGER
The Emissions Inventory Manager module allows companies to capture, update and display their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the rules of selected compliance regimes and emission calculation methodologies, including:

  • EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) Methodology - on a country-specific basis;
  • Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) GHG Emissions Inventory Methodology;
  • World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)/World Resources Institute (WRI) GHG Protocol;
  • UK Department of Environment, Transport & Regions (UK DETR) GHG Methodology;
  • Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) Greenhouse Challenge Methodology and Power Generator Efficiency Standard Methodology (PGES); and
  • Corporate GHG Methodology (software may be customised to include a specific corporate emission calculation methodology).

The Emissions Inventory Manager captures and displays a company’s historical, present and future GHG emissions, as well as the relevant input data and emission factors necessary to calculate those emissions.

MODULE 2 - COMPLIANCE MANAGER
The Compliance Manager module allows companies to capture their compliance obligations under specific compliance regimes, track their progress towards achieving compliance, manage their portfolio of tradeable instruments required for compliance and acquit those instruments to the regulatory authority at the appropriate time.

This module captures the requirements of multiple compliance regimes, including:

  • European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS); and
  • Voluntary Corporate Commitments (expressed as a user defined % reduction in GHG emissions relative to a base year).

The Compliance Manager allows companies to capture the details of individual tradable instruments (emission allowances) that they have bought and/or sold in order to meet their compliance obligation.

This module allows users to display the obligation and the trading position data by installation, by company, by enterprise, by business line, by country and/or a combination of these elements.

The Compliance Manager also allows users to list, sort and select individual instruments to be acquitted to the relevant authority at the end of each compliance period.

MODULE 3 - SCENARIO PLANNER
The Scenario Planner module allows companies to capture the details of emission abatement projects associated with specific installations and to display, filter and sort that information according to user-defined criteria.

This module calculates and displays marginal abatement cost and average abatement cost graphs for selected abatement projects, installations, companies and the whole-of-enterprise.

The Scenario Planner allows users to implement a portfolio of hypothetical abatement projects and analyse their potential effect on future GHG emissions and company performance (eg revenue, production, etc) and compliance with the EU ETS. This allows users to evaluate the least cost methods of meeting stated greenhouse gas emissions objectives or targets.

The Scenario Planner also allows users to evaluate the impacts of alternative policy scenarios and assess the merits of alternative corporate strategies.

MODULE 4 - AUDIT, REPORTING & ADMINISTRATION
The Audit, Reporting & Administration module allows users to retrieve data from the system according to user defined selections, generate standard reports from data stored in the system, audit data and changes to the data on the system and administer the software. This module caters for multiple reporting formats in accordance with various regulatory regimes.
